In this article, I talk about how to create a game plan that gets you more deals.
The Hidden Challenge of Leading a Recruitment Team
You were a top biller—now, you’re leading a team. But instead of scaling with confidence, you feel stuck.
❌ You’re still doing the heavy lifting because your team isn’t performing at your level.
❌ You’re drowning in daily tasks with no time for big-picture strategy.
❌ You’re torn between hitting personal targets and growing a high-performing team.
Most Player-Coaches fail not because they lack skill but because they lack a clear Game Plan.
A winning recruitment team isn’t built on hope—it’s built on a structured 5-Step Player-Coach Game Plan.
Why Most Recruitment Leaders Struggle to Scale
The problem isn’t effort—you’re working hard. But without a clear Game Plan, you’re constantly:
🚨 Reacting to problems instead of proactively coaching.
🚨 Stuck in the weeds, making all the decisions yourself.
🚨 Spreading yourself too thin leading to burnout.
The best Player-Coaches don’t just work harder—they follow a system that allows them to lead without chaos. The Player-Coach Five-Step that gets you more deals.
If you want to build a high-performing team without getting buried in daily tasks, follow this five-step system:

Step 1: Direction – Get the Team Aligned
Before anything else, clarity is key. Your team needs to know:
📍 Where are you now? (Current performance)
📍 Where do you want to go? (Target results)
📍 What’s the deadline? (Clear, time-bound goals)
🚫 No fluff. No vague targets. No assumptions.
🎯 Action Step: In your next team meeting, state your goals in one clear sentence:
“By the end of this quarter, we will generate £500,000 in revenue by increasing client outreach by 30% and improving conversion rates from 20% to 30%.”
Step 2: Resources – Take Stock of What You Have
Scaling recruitment isn’t just about working harder—it’s about leveraging the right resources.
Ask yourself and your team:
🔹 Do we have the right skills to hit these goals?
🔹 Do we have the tools (CRM, automation, training) to maximize efficiency?
🔹 Where are the gaps, and who can help fill them?
🚨 Too many recruitment leaders assume their team has everything they need. Don’t assume—ask.
🎯 Action Step: List three key gaps in skills, tools, or time. Decide what needs fixing NOW.
Step 3: Options – Brainstorm Without Limits
Before deciding on a strategy, open the floor. More ideas = better decisions.
Instead of dictating, challenge your team:
💡 “What’s the best way to increase placements by 20% this quarter?”
💡 “How can we improve conversion rates without adding more hours?”
💡 “If we had zero limits, what would we try?”
🚫 No bad ideas at this stage—only open discussion. The more engaged your team is in creating the plan, the more they’ll own it.
🎯 Action Step: Have a 15-minute team brainstorm where every member contributes at least one idea.
Step 4: Evaluate – Cut Through the Noise
Now, it’s time to get real. Some ideas will be strong, others won’t.
To decide what’s most effective and realistic, ask:
⚖️ What’s the impact vs. effort?
⚖️ Which option aligns best with our skills and resources?
⚖️ What’s the biggest bottleneck, and which solution removes it fastest?
Then—commit. No half-measures. No endless tweaking. Make a decision and move forward.
🎯 Action Step: Choose ONE strategy to focus on for the next 90 days.
Write it down. Share it. Own it.
Step 5: Execute – Get Moving
🚨 A plan is useless without execution. The best Player-Coaches move fast and refine as they go.
✅ Assign clear roles—who is responsible for what?
✅ Set tight deadlines—what needs to be done this week?
✅ Stay agile—adjust the plan if needed, but never lose momentum.
The key? Accountability. If no one owns the action steps, nothing gets done.
🎯 Action Step: By the end of today, have your team commit to ONE action each that moves the plan forward.
What Happens If You Don’t Implement a Game Plan?
If you keep leading reactively:
❌ Your team will stay dependent on you for every decision.
❌ You’ll hit a ceiling—your billings will plateau.
❌ You’ll burn out from doing everyone’s job instead of scaling recruitment.
But when you follow The Player-Coach Five-Step Game Plan, you:
✅ Stay in control instead of reacting to chaos.
✅ Develop a self-sufficient team that hits targets without micromanagement.
✅ Scale recruitment faster while keeping your personal billings high.
